Areas of Practice

Depression

This interferes with your ability to function effectively throughout the day or even to have the motivation to get out of bed in the morning. You may have trouble sleeping or sleeping too much. Your mood is generally sad and, in more severe cases, you might have thoughts of suicide. Many aspects of life that gave you happiness in the past have lost their intrigue. All these are signs of depression.

Grief

This is the ubiquitous emotion that almost every single human will experience in their life. This natural response is often triggered by trauma in the form of an event such as: the death of a loved one, a break-up or divorce, the closure of a business, or the ex-communication of a friend.

LGBTQ+ Issues

Feelings regarding attraction and identity are often confusing and sometimes disapproved of by members of society. If you are attracted to more than one gender and/or are having trouble coming out, you should seek the help of a counselor to help make sense of your situation.

Anxiety Disorders

One of the most common disorders in modern day America, “anxiety disorders” is a blanket term that encompasses many disorders such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder (PD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), etc. Anxiety is a common natural human response that presents itself in many different kinds of stressful or tasking situations. Repeated feelings of tension in the muscles, an increased heart rate, or a clouded mind during moderately stressful situations can be signs of an anxiety disorder. If you are having trouble deciding if you have an anxiety disorder, or can’t decipher which anxiety disorder you have, the first step is talking to a counselor to help organize the warning signs.

ADHD

Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is a disorder commonly diagnosed in children at a young age. Yet, an estimated 4.4% of adults have ADHD, according to a survey of 3,199 adults age 18 - 44 taken in 2001-2003 over the entire US population. Common symptoms include being easily distracted, the inability to focus on a task for an extended period of time, and interrupting others while they’re talking. ADHD is a treatable disorder, with treatment varying from counseling to drug prescription.

Bipolar

Characterized by cycling moods that swing between overly elated or irritable (mania) to sad and hopeless (depression) and then back again, with periods of normal mood in between.
